Come spesso accade l'ostilità verso la nuova corrente divenne indifferenza e poi graduale accettazione. Verso il 1880-90, l'opinione pubblica stava cambiando, influenzata in parte da qualche critico (come Huysmans, e da altri estimatori non francesi), che intuiva vagamente ciò che il gruppo tentava di raggiungere. Nel 1884 gli artisti "indipendenti", che si erano staccati dall'originaria cerchia impressionista, fondarono il Group (più tardi la Sociéte' dès artistes indépendants), una fondazione formale di mutuo soccorso. Grazie al Group Paul Signac (1863-1935) conobbe il lavoro di Georges Seurat (1859-91), il cui quadro La baignade (1883-84) fu esposto alla prima mostra del gruppo.

The raku pottery technique has it's origins in Japan. Raku potters were producing wares expressively for the Japanese tea ceremony. Raku, meaning "pleasure" or "enjoyment", was not introduced to the western world until the first half of the 20th century.

The name Capodimonte, meaning "top of the mountain" in Italian, is apropos considering the first pieces were produced a hilltop factory established by King Charles VII. The Royal Factory produced porcelain wares from 1759 to 1780.
